Installing and uploading

It doesn't move after uploading

Check the following in order.

  1. Are you in VR mode? … Dynamic Move only works in VR mode. It does nothing in desktop mode.
  2. Is Enabled ON? … Check Dynamic MoveEnabled.
  3. Is the prefab inside the avatar? … In the Hierarchy, check that the prefab is a child of the avatar (the object with the VRC Avatar Descriptor). If it is outside the avatar, it isn't installed.
  4. Is Modular Avatar installed? … If "Dynamic Move" doesn't appear in the Expression menu, it wasn't installed during the build. Also see I get an error when building.
  5. Is the tilt motion just small? … Very small tilts are ignored (Dead Zone). Tilt your head clearly to check.
I get an error when building / "Dynamic Move" doesn't appear in the menu

Modular Avatar (NDMF) may be missing or outdated. Add or update Modular Avatar in your avatar project with VCC, then upload again.

The error details are shown in Unity's Console or NDMF's error window.

Not enough synced parameters

With the tuning menu, Dynamic Move uses 85 bits of synced parameters (Trial: 25 bits). You can reduce this in the following ways.

  • Turn off the tuning menu (85 bits → 1 bit) … Once you have chosen your values in the menu, enter them into Enter as Menu % in the inspector. Then turn off Add Tuning Menu and upload again. The motion is fixed to the inspector values.

Motion

My body leans to one side even though I'm standing straight

This gimmick creates upper- and lower-body motion from the tilt of your head, so even a slight head tilt easily affects the whole avatar's posture. Also, because the avatar's posture is made with animations, the avatar can stay tilted depending on the state of VRChat's animation sync. Use the methods below to fix or compensate for the tilt. For now, this is also a limitation of using this gimmick.

  1. Your own posture … Some people's head or upper body is slightly tilted even when they feel they are standing straight. Shift SensorSensor Tilt a little toward the side your body leans (above 50% if it leans right, below if it leans left).
  2. The avatar's idle animation … The animation in the avatar that sets its idle posture may already tilt the body or hips. Adjust this with SensorSensor Tilt as well.
  3. The state of VRChat's animation sync … This can happen after you take off and put your headset back on, or come back from AFK. Even with correct settings, the avatar's posture may bend sharply or its center may shift. There is no good fix for this yet, so reset your avatar from the Action Menu or respawn in the world.

If small head wobbles make you lean left or right, widen Dead Zone in the inspector a little.

My body sways just standing still / my upper body jitters
  • Raise SensorSmoothing a little (10% → 20–30%).
  • Check that Use Smoothing is ON in the inspector.
  • If the left/right tilt causes the swaying, widen Dead Zone in the inspector a little.
My chest arches / rounds while I'm looking straight ahead

The sensor's "straight ahead" doesn't match your natural posture. Adjust SensorSensor Height following the steps in Align the sensor.

On avatars whose idle animation points the chest down, raising it a little above 50% often fixes it.

The motion lags behind

Lower SensorSmoothing. The higher Smoothing is, the more the motion lags (about 0.25 s at 50% and 60fps). The lag also grows when your frame rate is low.

When I tilt my head, my body suddenly flips to the other side partway (jerks)

This mainly happens with the S-curve (Posture below 50%). With the S-curve, the body's motion amplifies the sensor reading, so if it is too strong, the motion stops following your head tilt proportionally and flips all at once near the center.

  • Move MotionPosture toward 50% in 5% steps.
  • Lower MotionNeck Bend.

It rarely happens with the C-curve (above 50%).

The motion is too small / too big
  • Overall sensitivity … Lowering the Max Degrees settings in the inspector makes the body move a lot with just a small head movement (raising them does the opposite).
  • Motion when tilting left or right … Adjust the items in Motion. We recommend starting with Torso Sway and Hip Tilt.
  • Chest twist and arch … The angle goes up to the end of the avatar's range of motion (automatic). If you don't want it, you can turn it OFF in Body Parts.
The area between the chest and hips looks stretched

Set MotionChest Shift back to 50% (0). It slides the chest sideways, so large values can make the mesh look stretched.

My body goes back to straight when I walk or run

This is by design. Dynamic Move's motion is paused while you are walking or running.

Does it work in desktop mode?

No. Dynamic Move only works in VR mode and does nothing in desktop mode (your avatar moves like standard VRChat).

Does it work with full-body tracking?

It is designed for 3-point tracking (head + both hands). It hasn't been tested with full-body tracking.

Other

I want to update to a new version

Import the new unitypackage over the old one in the same project, and upload again. You can leave the prefab in your avatar as it is.

Your inspector values are kept. To use the new version's defaults, press Reset All in the inspector. The installed version is shown at the top of the inspector.

I want to switch from the Trial to the full version

Import the full version's unitypackage over the Trial and upload again. Your inspector settings carry over, and you can adjust all of the motion.

I want the menu in English (or Japanese)

The prefab decides the language. Delete the DynamicMove_JP in your avatar and add DynamicMove_EN (or the other way around) to switch. Swapping resets the inspector values to their defaults, so re-enter them if needed.

I want to remove it from my avatar

Delete the Dynamic Move prefab inside your avatar in the Hierarchy, and upload again. It is only installed at build time, so your avatar's own data stays unchanged.
